eBay seller fees: what you pay per sale

eBay's final value fee for most categories is 13.6% of the total sale (item + shipping) up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders up to $10 or $0.40 above. There's no separate payment processing fee — it's included. Cross-border adds two more lines sellers forget: a 1.65% international fee and 3% currency conversion when the buyer pays in another currency.

eBay (US, no Store) takes $4.48 per $30 order (14.93%) — you keep $25.52 before product and shipping costs.

Monthly total at 100 orders: $448

International fee 1.65% and 3% currency conversion apply to cross-border orders.

SellerSays rule — fit, not fees:

  • Best for used, collectible, refurbished, and long-tail inventory; auction format still matters in niches.
  • Store subscriptions (from $4.95/mo) cut the final value fee to 12.7% for most categories — worth it at volume.

When a Store subscription pays for itself

A Basic Store (from $21.95/mo) cuts the most-categories final value fee from 13.6% to 12.7%. That 0.9-point gap covers the subscription at roughly $2,450 of monthly sales — below that, the subscription is a cost, not a saving. You also get more free listings against the standard 250/month allowance ($0.35 each after).

Category exceptions matter at the extremes: books/media run 15.3%, jewelry 15% up to $5,000, and athletic shoes over $150 drop to 8% with no per-order fee.

Common questions

Does the fee apply to my shipping charge?
Yes — the final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale including shipping and handling.
What triggers the international fee?
eBay charges 1.65% when your registered address is in one country and the buyer's shipping address is in another, on top of the standard final value fee.
