Amazon Brand Registry: the trademark is the ticket
Brand Registry enrollment is free; the gate is a trademark — an active registered mark, or a pending application filed through Amazon's IP Accelerator (vetted firms at $700 + government fees, which gets you Registry access while the mark is pending). Filing directly with the USPTO costs $350 per class in base fees plus any attorney costs, but full registration takes months. What the Registry buys: A+ Content, IP-infringement tools (Project Zero, Transparency), Brand Analytics, Stores, Sponsored Brands — the difference between selling products and running a brand on Amazon.
When it's worth it — and the cross-border angle
Registry pays for itself twice: offensively (A+ content and Brand Analytics measurably support conversion and targeting) and defensively (hijacker and counterfeit tooling that unbranded listings simply don't get). For cross-border sellers the trademark question multiplies by jurisdiction — a US mark serves amazon.com; selling into Europe eventually means an EU mark for the same protections there. Sequence it with your market plan rather than buying trademarks speculatively.
Common questions
- Can I enroll with a foreign trademark?
- Amazon accepts marks from an official list of trademark offices — check your country's registry against Amazon's current eligibility list when enrolling; the IP Accelerator path works when you lack any eligible mark.
